The human body never ceases to astound in art. It is constantly studied, portrayed, morphed and honored. Each human body differs to certain extents, causing each individual their own unique identity. Yet, when disfigurement occurs, we tend to dismiss this other body. We do not perceive it as normal and tend to shy away from it, masking our fear of difference with disgust and pity. These images force the viewer to take in disfigurement, trying to understand how the body was manipulated, if at all. Through further analysis, these images in their crisp black and white setting lead to a haunting beauty, leaving a sound impression upon those who see it.
